[This picture was taken the first day we met - how awesome is that?!]
He
may or may not have known my true feelings towards him the very first day we
met. We both signed up for a rock climbing class at UNLV (University of Nevada Las Vegas), but it closed due to
the lack of enrollment. Unknowingly, we then signed up for the next best thing:
canoeing. Still can't believe that trip was a class...and we got a credit for
it. During the first few sessions, I couldn't help but notice he was the best
looking person in the room. I AM SO SHALLOW, oh my goodness...His competition was a 60 year old adventure
veteran, teachers ranging from 30-45, and my friend. It was a tough race as you
can see.
During the actual 3 day trip of camping, bon fires, and hours and
hours of canoeing on a beautiful river, sunshine and all, he and the other fellows decided to make my
friend and I the butt of every youthful joke you can think of: the not-so-funny
kind. I was 18, he was 22 and for some reason a HUGE difference in his eyes. And my friend and I were the youngest, or "babies" according to everyone. But all didn't fail when my prince charming saved me after my canoe had tipped
over in raging, freezing waters. Other than the fact that I pretty much owed
him my life for not letting me freeze and drown to death in the canyon (talk about a
titanic moment but way less romantic), I couldn't wait to be home and away from
"baby" jokes. His charm never failed though, and somehow we started
texting and hanging out. As the story goes, one thing led to another and now we
are going to spend the rest of our lives together one year later.
Yes,
he still jokes about how young I am, and how he saved my life. I'm going to
have to save his to repay the debt...hmmm...
