Day 09: All About Baseball #PinedaCan14

Monday, June 2, 2014

I can't believe the first week of this summer is over already and we're in June! I saw this post on Facebook today that said 2014 is already half. Talk about time flying.  We ended the 4 home game series against the Lincoln Saltdogs with a loss, unfortunately, and you can read more about that (and my man's hits) here. I must add though, that game 2 was the most epic. I'll leave the news letter + video and highlights here if you want details, but basically, we were down a run after a couple of crushing RBIs from the Saltdogs, and everyone in the stands was praying for a run from the next batter. 1 person is on base. First pitch, Strike 1. Second pitch, Ball 1. Third pitch, HOME RUN!!!!!!!!!!! It was so epic the whole crowd was jumping with the team. Incredible. I'll never forget the feeling. 053014-gamer Our host family's kids have this ritual where they bring Beary, a stuffed bear, (when they remember) to a home game, the Goldeyes win. Only if you rub his nose, of course. But the kids did something extra special to the stuffed bear that warmed my heart. yo3 yo4 The sweet thangs dedicated Beary to Ryan and made him his own jersey. Adorable. They're really an awesome pair of youngsters. I haven't snagged a solo picture with Nick yet, but how cute is this girl! We like to take many selfies in-between innings. yo5 Usually, I wouldn't go on the road with the team, but it worked out that our host family was driving down to watch the road games and I could tag along for the ride. So I packed the new backpack Ry got me from the team and headed to our first stop Sioux Falls, South Dakota. yoi8 We got to SD just in time for a quick lunch together before Ry left for bp. Downtown Sioux Falls is happening. I'm staying at the same hotel as the Goldeyes and they're right in the heart of the town. Coffee shops, vintage stores, and $9 Japanese bento boxes which were DELICIOUS. yo9 We ended the night with a win for the Goldeyes 3-2 against the Sioux Falls Canaries on a perfect day. Ryan's best friend from college actually plays for SD and hit a homer tonight which was cool to see. Of course, I cheered on the inside because my heart is with the fish. It got a little cold towards the night, but hey, I can't complain. Ok, maybe I was complaining a little. I'm used to 100+ weather not anything below 60.

yo10How's that girl's epic leg lift right when I'm taking my picture dang it.

We're here for 4 days and to be honest, I feel so comfortable back in the States. Not that I know anyone in South Dakota, or that I'm doing anything out of the ordinary, or that I don't like Winnipeg or anything, but it just feels good to be back home (in the country sense). You don't realize how different Canada is even though it borders us, until you live there. Next stop is Fargo, North Dakota! I'll update more than just every 9 days, too. The first week, I was trying to get settled in and learn the Canadian ways. Will check in soon!
